The state of race relations in South Africa is the theme of the most recent polling by the Institute of Race Relations (IRR), the findings of which will be published in an online webinar next week.

Hermann Pretorius, head of strategic communications at the IRR and lead author of the report, will explain the polling methodology and present the findings of the survey in the webinar next Wednesday.

Notable topics include:

  • Whether South Africans share President Donald Trump’s view that “white genocide” is occurring in the country;
  • Whether South Africans believe their president should be black; and
  • Whether South Africans approve of the government using race to classify citizens.

This latest polling was conducted between 9 and 20 March 2026 among a representative sample of 1,038. With a confidence interval of 95%, the findings have a margin of error of 3%.

Members of the media and public are invited to attend.
