Over 1 million South Africans have left the country since 1990, many of them high net worth individuals. Top emigration destinations include the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. According to the IRR's Diaspora Survey, the top reason for leaving was career or economic opportunity, followed by crime and corruption.
