Stop the Expropriation Bill

After his party failed to change the constitution, President Ramaphosa wants parliament to pass the Expropriation Bill, which would allow the government to take your property without compensation.

At the ANC Policy Conference in July 2022, President Ramaphosa brought back Expropriation Without Compensation (EWC) with a vengeance. EWC will be achieved through the Expropriation Bill. This Bill is to be voted on in Parliament this year. If this Bill becomes law it will allow government officials (e.g. municipal officials) to take private property for zero compensation.

No South African will be safe from this Bill. Once the principle of private property is lost, the expropriation of other assets is just a matter of time. This means that first your house and later your savings, your car ̶ anything you own ̶ can be targeted by a corrupt government official.

All efforts should be redoubled to avoid a repeat of the Zimbabwe catastrophe within our own country. Zimbabwe is still struggling to provide their citizens with basic human needs such as bread, milk and maize meal. Their citizens have to flee the country in search of greener pastures, as a lack of necessities and job opportunities prevail.

The IRR has always stood against attempts to deprive people of their property rights. We invite every South African to stand with us, because property rights are human rights. Give the IRR a mandate to fight the Expropriation Bill on your behalf and help to stop the erosion of property rights.
