Free Speech In A Globalised World by Flemming Rose

The South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR) requests the pleasure of your company at the IRR's 44th Hoernlé Memorial Lecture.

Flemming Rose is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington D.C. During his tenure as culture editor of the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, Rose was principally responsible for the September 2005 publication of the cartoons that initiated the Muhammad cartoons controversy in early 2006. Since then, he has been an international advocate for freedom of speech and is the author of several books, including The Tyranny of Silence that the Economist in 2014 named one of the 10 best non-fiction books of the year. In 2016, Rose was awarded the prestigious Milton Friedman Prize for the advancement for Liberty. He has also been awarded the prestigious Publicist Prize from Denmark’s national press club and received the Honor Award for defending free speech by the Norwegian Organization Fritt Ord (Free Speech).
